About Speakeasy

Who writes for the Speakeasy?
You do! The Speakeasy is built on the voices of our members. We welcome stories, reflections, and content from anyone in A.A., especially those connected to meetings in the South Bay.

When are submissions due?
The Speakeasy is published quarterly. Submissions are typically due on the 15th of the month before each season’s edition:

  • Winter: November 15

  • Spring: February 15

  • Summer: May 15

  • Fall: August 15

What should I write about?
Share your experience, strength, and hope. You might write about getting sober, staying sober, working the Steps, lessons learned, challenges, or personal growth. Group announcements are also welcome. Please remember to respect the anonymity of other members and use discretion.

How long should it be and how do I send it?
Submissions can be short or long—anywhere from two paragraphs to two or three pages (about 500 words is a sweet spot). Longer pieces may be edited for space. Please send your writing as plain text or a Word document by email. If you’d like to include graphics, send them as .jpeg files.
